9 breathtaking images of our beautiful world

Behold the amazing images from the International Landscape Photographer of the Year contest...

Landscape photography is still the most popular genre of image-making so you know that, to place highly in a landscape photo competition, the standard has to be very, very high. Well, that’s exactly the case with the winning images from the International Landscape Photographer of the Year contest, which is now in its eighth year.

2021’s competition saw over 4500 entries from photographers all over the globe, but it was Turkish photographer Aytek Cetin who was named the big winner for his portfolio of amazing images that were packed with a fine-art feel to the frames.

Second place in the overall competition went to Dutch photographer, Max Rive, whose images included this epic frame entitled ‘The Dark Lord’, which made excellent use of the foreground interest in the mountain landscape scene.

Coming in at Third Place in the Photographers of the Year category was Italian photographer Andrea Zappia, who’s portfolio included this spectacular frame entitled; ‘Above the clouds’. The image was captured using a Sony a7R II and shows great use of golden hour light.

US-based photographer Tanmay Sapkal was named as the winner of the Photograph category. Tanmay’s image was captured on Mt. Tamalpais, located in Marin country, just north of San Francisco and shows a comet flying above the fog.

Second Place in the Photograph category went to Cédric Tamani from Switzerland for this mesmeric frame entitled; ‘The Drumlins in Winter’. The image was captured with a Nikon Z 7 full-frame mirrorless camera, which was paired with a 24-70mm lens, zoomed in to 70mm.

Third Place in the Photograph category went to Australian photographer Benjamin Goode for an image entitled ‘Reflector’. The image was captured at Lake Bonney in South Australia using a Sony a7R III full-frame mirrorless camera paired with a 16-35mm wide-angle lens.

In the Specials awards, Heiner Machalett from Germany took the Monochrome category for an image entitled; ‘Winter Forest’, which was captured with a Canon 5D Mark IV DSLR paired with a 24-70mm lens.

The Amazing Aerial category was won by US-based photographer Chris Byrne for an image entitled ‘The Depths of Hell’.

In the Snow & Ice category, Italian photographer Mimmo Salierno was named the winner for an image entitled; ‘The Winter of the Lake’, which was captured using a Nikon D5 DSLR paired with a 70-200mm lens.
