Fans of Leica cameras and James Bond should never say never again because the luxury camera brand has just released a very special limited edition version of the Q2 – Leica’s compact, full-frame 47-megapixel mirrorless.
Leica has a lot of history producing limited edition models, but this latest addition feels extra special as it was designed in collaboration with Greg Williams, one of Britain’s most renowned photographers, and the main man himself – James Bond aka Hollywood actor Daniel Craig.
The pair have history as Leica explains that; ‘Greg has photographed Daniel Craig’s Bond since he first stepped into the role, creating behind-the-scenes books and special shoots as well as many of the Daniel Craig film posters. Both Craig and Williams have a common passion in photography and are both avid fans of the Leica brand.’
While the internals of the Q2 are same as the standard model, the exterior design is very special with all the engravings on the camera and lens inlaid with gold paint – cue plenty of ‘Goldfinger’ jokes. The design also includes a first: the name and sequential serial number have been engraved with a laser, under the glass cover of the camera display. What’s more, the traditional Leica logo is different too – on the Leica Q2 Daniel Craig x Greg Williams, the red dot with Leica lettering has been replaced with a black dot and gold lettering for the first time ever.
Bond fans will notice it’s a case of ‘live and let dye’, as the limited edition Q2 features a carrier strap made of top-quality, vegetable-dyed Nappa leather that is embossed with the Leica logo, and has eyelets which are gilded. The same leather, embossed with an elegant diamond pattern, is also used for the camera covering.
Bond actor Daniel Craig commented on the limited edition cameras saying; “The Q2 is, for me, the perfect camera and needs no improvement. So, to have the chance to work with the amazing people at Leica and my friend, Greg Williams, to create something as unique as this, has been a privilege and an honour.”
Whatever you think about the Bond-themed makeover, there’s no doubting that this is an exclusive camera with the Leica Q2 Daniel Craig x Greg Williams limited to just 750 units with each camera coming in a specially designed, hinged-lid presentation box with gold lettering and a black silk lining. As you’d expect, the camera also comes with a premium price-tag, costing a cool $6995.
