The action camera market is becoming a crowded place with GoPro and DJI already doing battle with the Hero8 Black and Osmo Action competing. However, this hasn’t stopped Insta360 entering the game with the launch of the One R – a modular system that needs to be seen to be believed.

The One R is able to capture both 4K video and 360-degree video thanks to a 5.3K 1-inch sensor. The battery base and core unit can be paired with modular accessories such as a 4K camera mod or a 360-degree dual lens mod or a 1-inch wide-angle mode that has been co-engineered with Leica.
The 4K wide-angle mode can capture 4K video at 60p, meaning this footage can be used at half speed for a slow motion effect. If you want to go even slower, there’s an option for 8x slow motion. This mod features a reversible design that enables you to flip the touchscreen from back to front which will be of interest to Vloggers.

The 1-inch Wide-Angle mod, which was co-engineered with Leica enables the user to capture 19-megapixel photos and 5.3k video. Plus the One R benefits from an IPX8 rating, meaning it’s waterproof to depths of 5 meters (16.4 feet). If you need to go deeper, a housing extends this depth to 60 meters (197 feet).

Along with Voice Control, HDR video options, 6-axis stabilisation, starlapse mode and toughened glass, users can take advantage of a double battery base to extend the shooting capacity and there’s even a mod to get airbourne as photographers can even get their hands on a mod that attaches to a drone so you can shoot 360 video from the skies.

The One R is available in a number of kits with the Insta360 ONE R Twin Edition offering the Dual-Lens 360 Mod and 4K Wide Angle Mod for $479.99, while the 1-Inch Wide Angle Mod is priced at $549.99 and the 4K Wide Angle Mod at $299.99.
