We already know that Nikon’s Z 6 mirrorless camera is a very capable tool for moviemakers, but now the company has made it even more appealing with the launch of a video-focused kit. The Nikon Z 6 Essential Movie Kit combines the camera with a series of video-related accessories to provide all the core tools you need to create high quality movies. Plus, of course, there’s scope to further expand on the basic kit in the future.
At the heart of the kit is the Z 6 mirrorless body, which features a full frame, 24.5 megapixel sensor. Videographers will also love the camera’s built-in 5-axis image stabilisation, 4K capture at up to 30P, Full HD at up to 120P and 10-bit recording capabilities. But it’s the added extras – a Nikon FTZ mount adapter, Atomos Ninja V recorder, SmallRig camera cage, batteries and cables – that really underline the kit’s moviemaking potential.
Get serious about moviemaking
The FTZ mount adapter allows Nikon F-mount lenses (or cine lenses via a third party adapter) to be attached to the Z 6, which vastly increases shooting options without any decrease in image quality, while the Ninja V, meanwhile, is a combined monitor and recorder that can be used to capture edit-ready ProRes and DNxHR formats as well as 10-bit N-log footage. A firmware update, which is set for release later this year, will add support for Apple’s ProRes RAW when recording from the camera’s RAW output with the Ninja V.
Completing the outfit is a Manfrotto-compatible SmallRig quick release camera cage, handle and magic arm – which makes it simple to carry the camera and attach accessories – two batteries each for the Z 6 and Ninja V and a coiled HDMI cable.
The Z 6 Essential Movie Kit costs £2639 and will be available any time soon.
