You can say this for Sony, the brand sure does know how to tempt photographers to part with their money. For landscape and portrait shooters, the big megapixel a7RIII is a resolution-heavy dream, while the speedy a9 has made photographers hand over their credit cards in pursuit of that 20 Frames Per Second (FPS) burst rate.
Now Sony has turned its sights on vloggers by launching the RX100 III Video Creator Kit, which pairs together a collection of kit aimed at helping videographers capture run-and-gun Full HD video content with ease. The kit is based around Sony’s RX100 III camera, which was actually replaced in 2016 by the Sony RX100 IV and is a few generations old now. The camera boasts a 20.1-megapixel 1” Exmor R sensor that’s paired with a BIONZ X processor and up front is a 24-70mm ZEISS lens with a variable maximum aperture of F/1.8-2.8.
Paired with the RX100 III is the VCT-SGR1 Shooting Grip, which enables photographers to control zoom functions and also to trigger the shutter or start/stop recording. The grip also doubles up as a mini tripod and is designed to be easily used by left or right-handed videographers. The grip will also allow vloggers to flip up the RX100 III’s 180º tiltable LCD screen and extend the camera away to frame the user’s body when presenting to the lightweight camera, which tips the scales at just 290g.
Along with the camera and grip, the Video Creator Kit also includes a large capacity 64GB SD card and an extra NP-BX1 battery so you can vlog for longer (the standard battery is rated for 320 shots).
The RX100 III can film Full HD up to 60p and record to an external monitor/recorder via HDMI, but perhaps the most impressive element about the RX100 III Video Creator Kit is the price, because the whole bundle will cost just $799 when it starts shipping in July.
