Samyang has launched another volley of new glass and this time around, it’s Nikon photographers who will be able to benefit. The third-party lens manufacturer has pulled the covers off one autofocus lens for the F-mount and two manual focus lenses for Nikon’s new Z-mount, which is used on the brand’s full-frame mirrorless models, the Z6 and Z7.
First up, let’s take a look at the autofocus lens, the AF 85mm F1.4F which is designed for full-frame DSLRs using Nikon’s F-mount, so cameras like the D850 will be suitable. 85mm is the perfect focal length for portraits, so this lens is bound to appeal to portrait photographers and the AF 85mm F1.4F is Samyang’s second lens for the Nikon F mount, following on the the earlier release of the wide-angle AF 14mm F2.8F in 2018.

With a ultra fast maximum aperture of f/1.4, photographers will be able to create incredibly shallow depths of field and will benefit from faster shutter speeds in low light conditions, which will in turn help banish camera shake and blurry shots. The AF 85mm F1.4F also benefits from Ultra-Multi-Coated (UMC) technology, for a higher levels of image quality.
Alongside the autofocus AF 85mm F1.4F, Samyang has announced not one, but two lenses for the Nikon Z-mount range of cameras, currently the 45.7-megapixel Z 7 and the 24.5-megapixel Z 6. The MF 85mm F1.4 Z (like the autofocus lens mentioned above) will be ideal for portraiture and features an 8-bladed circular aperture for what Samyang says will be ‘smooth bokeh’.
Nikon Z 6 and Z 7 users now have a wider range of optic choice thanks to the new manual focus lenses.
Meanwhile, the final of the three lenses to be announced is the MF 14mm F2.8 Z, which is an ultra-wide angle optic that will find favour with landscape and architecture photographers.
All of the lenses, including the MF 14mm F2.8 Z, feature weather sealing to keep dust and moisture at bay, which will appeal to working professionals looking for optics that can stand up to the everyday demands of pro-use. At present, no pricing or availability information has been released.
