The Hong Kong-based lens manufacturer SLR Magic has announced two new Sony FE prime lenses for videographers. Many short filmmakers now shoot with the Sony a7 series (including our very own DigitalRev team), and these CINE lenses will provide a specialised tool for these users.
They are manual focus only, but most filmmakers do not rely on autofocus, and the a7 series has a powerful focus peaking ability.
Both of these lenses are very fast, and are designed with follow focus rigs in mind with their geared barrel design.
Since CINE lenses are almost always used as a series, the aperture design for both the 35mm and 75mm are identical. Both have 13 aperture blades that stop down to f/16, and 52mm filter threads with non-rotating front elements. They also have a black anodized finish to help prevent reflections.
You can get each lens for US$499 in August, and SLR Magic will have samples available at the CINE GEAR 2016 show in Los Angeles from June 3-4 for any curious videographers to try out.
