Japanese TV Makes the Case for 4K, in a Typically Bizarre Way

Think of Hikari-TV as a Hulu or Netflix of the Japanese world, but better, because: Japan. For their latest advert, the streaming service has produced a great 2-minute shot-in-one-take fight scene between a school girl armed with a sabre (the sword used in fencing) overcoming a barrage of attackers.

All this to make the case for 4K.

Before we get ahead of ourselves, watch the video and try to count how many assailants she ‘slashes’.

How many ‘slashees’ did you count?

If you counted 100, you are correct. But did you notice some bizarre extra characters hidden in the video?

There were four female ninjas—or Kunoichi—in the scene.

Hikari’s reasoning goes, if you didn’t see them it’s because you weren’t watching in 4K, and therefore you may be missing a lot of detail in everything you see.

With all the thought that goes into the still and moving images we see each day, it makes sense to view them in the intended format. After all, if it was filmed in 4K and you’re watching it on your smartphone you’re not going to get the full effect.

In case you still can’t spot the Kunoichi, we can help:
