Faces of The Revenant Revealed in Stunning Portraits

Hot off of scoring an impressive hat-trick at the Golden Globes, all eyes are on The Revenant’s—and Leonardo DiCaprio’s— chances at this year’s Academy Awards.

It certainly doesn’t hurt that Mexican cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki (Children of Men, Gravity, Birdman) also worked on the movie.

In the months leading up to The Revenant’s release Lubezki updated his Instagram feed with a collection of photos featuring the cast and crew.

Of course, the biggest face of The Revenant came from the Canadian wilderness and its snowy tundra where most of the movie was shot.

The movie is known for its dependency on natural light to film entire scenes in a painterly fashion.

“To create these tones is very complicated because your working in nature and not all the time can you control what you have in front of you.” – Emmanuel Lubezki

Lubezki won the Academy Award for Best Cinematography in two consecutive years (Gravity, 2013; Birdman, 2014) and it’s a dead cert he’ll be up for nomination at this year’s Oscars. The real question is whether The Revenant will help him score a hat-trick of his own.
