HARDCORE Is a Full Length Action Movie Shot with Custom GoPro Head Rig

With close to 30 million views racked up, you’ll more than likely have seen Biting Elbows‘ self-directed POV music video ‘Bad Motherfucker‘.

Two years later and the team are back with the release of a full length sci-fi follow-up starring Sharlto Copley (District 9Chappie).

Illya Naishuller, the band’s frontman turned director teamed up with producer Timur Bekmambetov (Night WatchDay WatchWanted) for the release of Hardcore; a story about a cyborg who must save his wife from a telekinetic psychopath.

Touted as the first action film to be shot 100% from the hero’s perspective, two GoPro Hero 3 cameras were used to shoot the high-octane movie in 3D.

They were hooked up to a stunt man using a head mounted camera rig and stabilised to lessen motion sickness during playback.

The movie has already drawn parallels to first-person view video games such as Call of Duty and Mirror’s Edge.

Time will tell whether Hardcore will inspire a new genre of POV filmmaking the same way that The Blair Witch Project did for shaky ‘found footage’ movies but it certainly doesn’t look like it’ll be as easy to replicate!

Hardcore will be screening at TIFF 2015 this week with a wider release date expected to follow later this year.
