If you’re an avid street photographer, the work of award-winning street photographer Joel Meyerowitz is certainly one you should be familiar with, if not, you should definitely check it out because his work is incredibly inspirational.
Born in 1938, he started photographing in 1962 and was an early advocate of colour street photography. His street photos encourage you to look closer, and closer still, to look at the details. Your eye doesn’t look at just one element within the image but rather the whole frame.
In the video above, Meyerowitz talks about how important framing is for him, deciding what to include and what to leave out. He also talks about how a rangefinder like the Leica M9 serves as a better tool for this kind of approach compared to shooting with a DSLR.
